Walmart says that it's partnered with drone company Wing to launch drone deliveries in the Atlanta metro area for six stores, as part of the retail giant's planned expansion of the service to five cities by mid-2026.
According to a release from Wing, drone deliveries for Atlanta started on December 3, and include groceries, household goods, toys and over-the-counter medicine, with estimated flight times of five minutes or less. This marks the first new major metropolitan area to which Walmart has brought drone deliveries since it announced expansion plans in June 2025. Houston, Orlando, Tampa and Charlotte are expected to be next, although Atlanta was chosen first for its dense population and its relatively high customer demand.
“This launch is a critical next step in our significant expansion, turning drone delivery from novelty to norm as residents make drone delivery part of their everyday shopping," said Wing chief business officer Heather Rivera.
Wing and Walmart first trialed drone deliveries in Dallas-Fort Worth in late 2023, and then expanded the service to include Arkansas, Virginia, Utah, Arizona and Florida. A year later, Walmart ended its programs in Utah, Arizona and Florida, in order to focus on managing costs and improving the service in a smaller group of markets, the company said
