The Evans Network of Companies, a provider of trucking and logistics services, has opened two new service centers in Charlotte, N.C. and Charleston, S.C. The Charlotte operation is half a mile from CSX rail service and one mile from the facilities of the North Carolina Port Authority. The location is easily accessible to major interstates such as 77, 85, 277 and 485, Evans said. The gated, five-acre facility includes a container yard and 24-hour security surveillance. Currently the service center contracts with 15 owner-operators; it plans to increase that number to 20 after Jan. 1. The Evans Delivery division has also opened a facility near the Port of Charleston. The six-acre center has container-storage capability, with 24-hour security and access to all ports, railroads and terminals in the Charleston area, according to Evans. It contracts with 48 drivers. The Evans Network operates a fleet of more than 1,350 tractors and 80 service centers throughout the U.S. Services include intermodal container and trailer drayage, van truckload and flatbed transport.
