Checkpoint Systems Inc. has devised an "out-of-the-box" system for retailers to gain visibility into sales and stocks, using handheld devices. Checkpoint is a supplier of systems for retail shrink management, merchandise visibility and apparel labeling. The vendor's Handheld Visibility Solution, utilizing radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, was designed to help retailers reduce out-of-stocks while boosting sales and maximizing shelf availability. It is intended as "an ideal first step" for retailers looking to implement a global rollout of inventory visibility functionality, including source tagging, in-store deployment and support, hardware and software, according to Per Levin, Checkpoint's worldwide president of merchandise visibility. The product enables store receiving, inventory counting and tracking of items sold, among other processes. Retailers can track inventory at the item level, in the back room and on the sales floor. The Handheld Visibility Solution consists of a handheld RFID reader, laptop computer, RFID software and tags, and service and support. In a related announcement, Checkpoint has developed the Interactive Public View (IPV) monitor, to enhance retail loss prevention and security. The IPV uses customized graphics as well as audible and visual alerts to draw attention to the monitor, or deliver messaging related to an alarm or event. In includes motion-activated graphic displays welcoming shoppers to a specific department, a connection to smart fixtures such as Checkpoint's ShelfAert or ShowSafe, and motion detection near fire exits that can activate a reminder message regarding active perimeter alarms.
