Walmart and JD.com Are Launching Three E-commerce Initiatives in China

Three months after entering into a partnership to expand online shopping options for Chinese consumers, Walmart and JD.com have announced three new ways for customers to access Walmart products from around the world. The efforts, which are part of the original strategy announced in June, are officially launching during the run up to Singles Day on November 11. They aim to improve logistics and supply chain functions, cross-border e-commerce and online-to-offline e-commerce services for consumers across the country, the companies say.

Airline Earnings Reports Point to Uncertain Growth Trajectory in U.S. Cargo

Of the three major American carriers to publish third-quarter results so far, only Alaska Airlines Cargo saw its cargo revenues increase, up 3 percent, year-over-year, to $31m - a fraction of its growing passenger revenue, according to earnings reports. Meanwhile, United registered a 4.7 percent decline in revenues, y-o-y, to $224m and, as previously reported, Delta continued its losing streak into the quarter, with revenues falling 15 percent, y-o-y, to $167m.

Russia Adds Deepwater Port to 15-Year Transport Strategy

A new deepwater port is planned for Arkhangelsk in the north of European Russia, according to Northern Shipping Company Arkhangelsk, a Russian shipping company. The new deepwater hub will be suitable for year-round handling of large capacity vessels and will be situated 55 kilometers (34 miles) north from Arkhangelsk near Mudyug Island, in the northern part of the Sukhoye Morje Bay, says NSC Arkhangelsk.

FedEx to Invest €1.4Bn in Paris Airport Facility Overhaul

FedEx Express is expanding its distribution hub at Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) Airport with a €200m ($217.38m) investment in technology and automation, and a €1.2bn ($1.3bn), 30-year lease. The 30-year lease underscores the long-term importance of the European Union to the company's long-term plans. Once completed, FedEx said the upgrade will increase sorting capacity by 40 percent.

3D Printer Sales to Double This Year, Analysts Say

There will be a doubling in the number of 3D printers shipped this year, according to analysts. Gartner predicts 455,772 units will ship in 2016, compared to 219,168 in 2015, as firms use the technology to create prototypes, augment manufacturing processes and produce finished goods.

IAG Cargo Announces First Route From London to Louisiana

IAG Cargo has announced its new route to New Orleans, Louisiana. Beginning March 26, 2017, the airline says it will become the only carrier to fly direct from its London Heathrow (LHR) hub to New Orleans International Airport (MSY).

Hyperloop Pioneer TU Delft Teams With DHL for California Competition

Amsterdam to Paris in 30 minutes. That's the goal of the "Delft Hyperloop" - a pod-like capsule developed by TU Delft for the rapid transportation of people and goods through tubes - the maker says. The apparatus that might make such a trip possible arrived in California aboard a DHL freighter last week to compete in the "Hyperloop Pod Competition."
