Damco has released a freight-status application for all three major mobile device platforms: the iPhone and iPad, Android and BlackBerry. The tool provides customers with an easy way to check on the status of the logistics services being provided to them by Damco. The company said the launch anticipates a future where more business processes will need to be supported on smartphones and tablets. Initially, the application will offer tracking of ocean freight shipments. Damco plans to add airfreight tracking and provide mobile access to key applications that are currently accessed by customers through the myDamco portal. There, they can fulfill all booking, reporting, tracking and document-handling requirements at one location. Damco has also launched a number of widgets, standalone applications that can be executed within a webpage when customers access the myDamco portal. The widgets allow users to create individual content and maintain constant access to them throughout the workday, according to Damco. The company is a business unit of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group.
