Wavelink Corp. has developed Wavelink Velocity, a mobile platform which provides for the delivery of Web-based applications to rugged mobile devices. According to the vendor, Velocity was built with the needs of today's wireless networks in mind, rendering pages faster than traditional mobile browsers. The tool is based on open-source architecture, standardizing the user experience across multiple platforms, including Windows, Windows Mobile, Windows CE, Android, iOS and Palm WebOS. Features including WYSIWYG tools, allowing administrators to optimize HTML host screens without accessing the host application; connection persistence, to provide a steady connection even when roaming in and out of RF coverage or when the device reboots or goes to sleep; transparent roaming, so that users can move between Wi-Fi and 3G/4G coverage without interruption; and advanced scanner support, so that the application can manipulate, validate and parse barcode scan data. Wavelink Velocity will be available in the first quarter of 2012 through Wavelink and its partners.
