TNT Express has launched PharmaSafe, a temperature-controlled service for the movement of large quantities of pharmaceutical products, such as vaccines and insulin. PharmaSafe was designed to address issues of lack of control and visibility inherent in the involvement of multiple parties, which can number more than 20 for an air shipment. Most errors occur when shipments change hands, the company said. Through PharmaSafe, TNT Express acts as a single partner, controlling the complete supply chain, from packaging procurement to delivery. It relies on its own aircraft, handling stations, collection and delivery networks, and customs clearance experts. The service also includes a passive container known as the va-Q-tainer, a reusable unit that can maintain interior temperatures for more than 120 hours without electronic power supply or dry ice. TNT offers the rental of pre-conditioned, ready-to-load-and-go va-Q-tainers. PharmaSafe provides real-time, end-to-end tracking of shipment location and temperature.
