U.S. Xpress Enterprises has expanded its coast-to-coast, temperature-controlled, team-trucking service. The carrier now has 100 reefer truckers in service, with plans to expand the fleet to 250 by the end of 2012. U.S. Xpress entered the reefer market about six months ago, in response to market demand for expedited coast-to-coast service. Its primary service lanes are from California to the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Southeast, and back to California. The company said it is also expanding volumes in a lane from California to the upper Midwest. U.S. Xpress claims a transit time of three days, or roughly 60-70 hours, for transcontinental delivery of perishable goods in the produce, pharmaceutical, chemical, chilled and frozen-food industries. The company is a SmartWay Transport Partner. Affiliates include Arnold Transportation Services, Smith Transport, Total Transportation of Mississippi, Xpress Global Systems and Xpress Internacional.
