The Australian Logistics Council has called on the Senate to pass proposed legislation on reworking the advisory body, Infrastructure Australia.

It has also endorsed decisions in the NSW budget to tackle long-term infrastructure issues, notably working with the Commonwealth and private interests to progress the Moorebank intermodal site in southwestern Sydney. More interchanges of freight between rail services and trucks would cut road congestion.

Infrastructure Australia is a statutory body established in 2008 to provide advice on priorities for major infrastructure projects, and in the process force the state and territory governments to do actual planning on infrastructure needs.

Under the current legislative proposals, a revised Infrastructure Australia would be governed by a board and a CEO, to produce a rolling five-year audit of national infrastructure, plus a 15-year plan of infrastructure priorities.
