Motorola Inc.'s Enterprise Mobility Solutions business has devised new tools for advanced data capture. The goal, the company said, is to improve operational efficiencies and enhance the customer experience. Motorola's MT2000 series of barcode scanners combine the basic functionality of a scanner with the complexity of a mobile computer. Using the new MK4000 micro kiosk, companies can access a number of interactive, self-service features for use by customers and employees. The MT2000 barcode scanner is aimed at small and medium-sized customers in the manufacturing, retail, warehouse, healthcare and supply chain industries. It extends the benefits of automated data capture to workers who do not require a higher-end, fully featured mobile computer. The Microsoft .NET framework permits the easy creation of new applications, Motorola said. Optional MCL Designer software allows existing applications developed by other Motorola mobile computers to be ported to the MT2000 series with point-and-click simplicity. The product is available in two entry-level models, the MT2070 and MT2090. Both support integrated Bluetooth connectivity, and can be also be linked to a host device via USB. The MK4000 micro kiosk lets customers check pricing, verify gift-card balances, order from the store website and print out personalized coupons without waiting for assistance. The technology can be deployed in hotels, airports, car rental offices, stadiums and theme parks, among other locations.
