The Chubb Group of Insurance Companies has enhanced its online commercial system for providing insurance to commercial inland marine shippers. The tool is used by agents and brokers to quote, bind and issue insurance policies. Known as u.writer, Chubb's online system now features broader underwriting parameters, in order to allow more business to be processed online. In addition, it can be accessed by Chubb-appointed wholesale brokers as well as independent agents. The move will speed up access to certificates of insurance by trucking and construction-industry customers, said a company official. Delays caused by servicing or regulatory issues can result in lost revenue when cargo can't be shipped on time, or construction can't be started. Chubb introduced its online commercial inland marine system 10 years ago. Agents and brokers use it to issue policies for builders' risk, contractors' equipment and freight moving by truck. Chubb underwriters can override the system online to accept or decline business, the company said.
