APICS, the trade association that bills itself at the Association for Operations Management, is offering the public free access to its APICS Operations Management Body of Knowledge (OMBOK) Framework. Previously available only to APICS members, the resource defines the scope of operations management for professionals around the world. It is updated annually and builds on more than 50 years of knowledge. Included are two appendices featuring tables that illustrate the relevancy of the publication to specific job titles, including supply-chain manager and materials manager, and to industries outside manufacturing, such as distribution, healthcare, retail, utilities and hospitality. With its release to the public, the Framework "can become an essential reference tool to all businesspeople as supply chain and operations management becomes a more visible function throughout the enterprise," said Abe Eshkenazi, chief executive officer of APICS.
