Railinc Corp. has developed a new test system for damaged and defective car tracking (DDCT), along with two new Web-based training demos. The offering allows users to explore the new system's functionality and to practice key tasks without being penalized for making mistakes. The test system requires access credentials before users can practice DDCT-related tasks. Railinc's pair of new training demos was designed to help railroads, equipment owners and repair shops learn how to use the DDCT system. The initial demos cover Rules 1 and 95, with demos covering Rules 107 and 108 to be available soon. All DDCT training demos will be available on demand and free of charge on the Railinc DDCT website, www.railinc.con/ddct. The DDCT system is a centralized, Web-based application which replaces paper defect cards and eliminates the need for defect card brackets by automating the process of identifying and tracking damaged and defective railcars. The new industry system is slated for deployment in January of 2011.
