Savi Technology has released SmartChain 6.0, the newest version of its application for managing assets, inventory and shipments within facilities as well as throughout the global supply chain. The software provides users with up-to-date information about the location, condition and security of their assets. The latest version was designed to ease the integration of Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) technologies, such as barcodes, IUID, radio frequency identification, global positioning system and sensors, into existing business processes. Savi also offers a software toolkit, which includes source for the application, simplifying the process of transforming real-time data from AIDC technologies. Version 6.0 features a refreshed user interface, including a dashboard summary of automated alerts and analytics tailored to the user. Companies can update database structures, modify workflows, adjust business rules, customize nomenclature and add new capabilities to the application. Savi also announced availability of the ST-694 GlobalTag, an asset and shipment-monitoring device which combines GPS, active RFID and satellite communications. The tag provides defense, public-sector and commercial customers with continuous monitoring and precise location information of supply-chain assets, the vendor said. The technology was co-developed with Numerex Corp., a provider of machine-to-machine communications systems. Finally, Savi has unveiled a real-time locating system (RTLS) for automatic location of assets in facilities or industrial yards. The tool's DASH7 technology is based on ISO-compliant, battery-powered RFID. It performs well in harsh and heavy-metal environments, Savi said, and is well-suited for use in defense and government supply depots, heavy-manufacturing plants, oil and gas refineries and aerospace environments, among other locations.
