Blockbuster Inc., the Dallas-based video rental giant, is using Provia's ViaWare warehouse management software. And because Blockbuster's supply chain includes both light assembly and distribution, the company is utilizing the WMS in conjunction with Provia's ViaOptimize optimization tools to manage labor and automation in its deadline-focused, competitive industry.
Initially, the company is utilizing Provia for the point-of-purchase materials such as positioning signs, advertising, games, game equipment and plush materials, in addition to packaging, sorting and distributing rental and retail DVD products. Later phases envision Blockbuster using the Provia solution to quickly process the returns from rental and retail merchandise (DVDs, videos, games).
In an unrelated matter, Provia has introduced its RFP scoring template to help companies evaluate vendors with the most viable WMS solutions.
RFP includes all the latest WMS technologies, and addresses industry-specific topics to help companies determine which vendors' solution most closely matches their unique requirements. Built with an open, editable architecture, it can be tailored to address the specific questions that apply to an organization's operations.
Blockbuster services more than 4,700 company-operated stores in the United States out of its national distribution center in McKinney, Tex.
