IAG Cargo Launches New Routes to North America

IAG Cargo has announced the launch of two new London Gatwick routes to North America - bringing the total number of IAG Cargo-operated U.S. gateways to 25 in Summer 2017. A Fort Lauderdale service is due to launch in March 2017 and will operate four times a week, and an Oakland flight will also launch in March 2017 on a three-per-week basis.

PetSmart Goes Same-Day Delivery

PetSmart has become one of the latest companies to offer same-day delivery - a year and a half behind rival Petco with partner Instacart - via partner Deliv. PetSmart.com says the service is now available in California (Los Angeles, Orange County, San Francisco, San Jose), Las Vegas, Atlanta, Miami, Seattle and Chicago. By mid-November, it will be available in eight additional metro areas for a total of nearly 2,500 zip codes serviced.

Top 40 Cargo Airports Provide Glimpses of Future Growth

Sometimes all it takes is a shift in strategy from a single carrier to make an impact on airport freight traffic. Qatar Airways Cargo, for instance, has been ramping up its airfreight routes for the last couple of years, seeking more high-value cargo, such as pharmaceuticals, and forming joint ventures with other airlines, such as IAG. Qatar achieved such growth via "fleet and network expansion, innovation in our technology, creative interline agreements and by deploying capacity on expanding or untapped markets," said Ulrich Ogiermann, the carrier's chief cargo officer.

Report: New Low in Sea Trade Growth

Seaborne shipments passed 10 billion tons for the first time ever in 2015, up 2.1 percent from 9.8 billion tons the year before - the slowest pace of growth in the industry since 2009, according to the UNCTAD Review of Maritime Transport 2016. The report says future growth looks uncertain.
