Ortec, a provider of planning and optimization software and services, has launched a new Map & Route module. The tool uses a highway node routing algorithm to provide real-time calculation of route plans. It consists of multiple components which allow users to take advantage of accelerated route calculations. Customer address data can be imported and geocoded into the map server. Route time and distances are calculated, and routes optimized, based on key data such as statistical congestion patterns and European road restrictions for trucks. The optimized data can be viewed and managed with the advanced map visualization feature. Maps can be shared with multiple users, who can choose from several display formats. The inclusion of Navteq's congestion pattern data for trucks means that planners can more accurately calculate anticipated travel time, Ortec said. The company added that is it further developing its routing algorithm to incorporate real-time traffic information such as the impact of adverse weather on the road network, road closures due to accidents, and planned road works. It also intends to take into account routes based on the lowest diesel cost and the availability of manned parking lots, among other factors.
