Panasonic Solutions Co. has developed the Toughbook 53, a semi-rugged notebook computer with 14-inch, high-definition LED display. The unit starts at 5.6 pounds and delivers up to 10 hours of battery life, according to Panasonic. It also offers optional 4G LTE mobile broadband capability. The Toughbook 53 contains a second-generation Intel i5 or i3 processor. It has a spill-resistant keyboard and is designed to survive 30-inch drops on six faces. The first Panasonic notebook to support a high-definition LED display, it offers an optional 2-800 nit sunlight-viewable touchscreen, plus an adjustable backlit emissive keyboard. Panasonic has increased the size of the touchpad by 25 percent while equipping it with multi-touch and zoom and scroll capability. The unit also offers an optional dual antenna pass-through for in-vehicle use in passenger cars and light-duty trucks.
