U.S. Xpress is a provider of transportation services throughout North America; Maritime-Ontario is a major Canadian freight carrier. Under the partnership, each company will draw on its national network to move freight across the borders between the U.S., Canada and Mexico, as well as within each country. According to the carriers, the new service is a response to customer demand for a one-stop, direct carrier linking all three countries. Under the agreement, Maritime-Ontario will carry freight across the Canada-U.S. border, at Buffalo/Niagara and Detroit/Windsor, while U.S. Xpress will be responsible for the Mexico-U.S. crossing. To ensure the security of freight moved in the service, Maritime-Ontario has completed the requirements necessary to earn its Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) and Partners in Protection (PIPS) certifications in Canada and the U.S. In addition, U.S. Xpress has been recognized as C-TPAT compliant. The service will employ truckload, refrigerated, dedicated and limited less-than-truckload (LTL) options, through team and solo arrangements. Intermodal services will be used when appropriate, the companies said.
