Cognex Corp. has introduced the DataMan 300, its newest series of fixed-mount industrial barcode readers. According to the vendor, the product line was designed to handle the most difficult I.D. code-reading applications on the highest-speed lines. The readers feature a new 1DMax+ algorithm, incorporating Hotbars technology, which was developed by 31-year Cognex veteran Bill Silver. For 2D matrix and hard-to-read Direct Part Mark (DPM) codes, the devices include an upgrade of 2DMax to the 2DMax+ algorithm. The DataMan 300 series consists of two models: the DataMan 300, with standard resolution of 800 x 600 pixels, and the 302, a high-resolution device with 1280 x 1024 pixels. The latter is ideal for reading DPM codes on small components, Cognex said. Users can purchase one model and choose the appropriate lens for their required working distance and field of view. Also included in DataMan 300 is a new tuning feature which helps to form the best possible image for each part.
