Solution: Utilizing custom modeling software, FORTE was able to provide multiple scenarios which identified: locations for regional service and freight consolidation centers and import warehouses; locations to construct new and expand existing facilities; locations for seasonal regional service centers; and costs of opening, operating and transitioning to the new network, taking into consideration automation levels, leases, capacity constraints and exit costs.

Results: They maintained the existing network of service and consolidation centers. They re-routed a portion of the inbound flow to their East Coast port, permitting a realignment to the service centers. The company achieved annual transportation cost savings greater than 3 percent while maintaining service levels.
