Engine power can be reduced by 18 to 20 percent, in line with EPA's Tier 4 standard for non-highway engines that are rated at 11 to 25 horsepower. For trailer refrigeration, efficiency improvements result in a 5- to 20-percent reduction in fuel consumption, according to the company. In addition, a new, custom-designed engine emissions system leads to reduced emissions and compliance with the ultra-low emissions standard of the California Air Resources Board. Carrier Transicold is applying ecoForward technologies to its trailer-refrigeration platforms, both belt-driven units and the Vector hybrid diesel-electric units, as well as the PowerLine generator sets that are used with container-refrigeration systems for overland intermodal applications.
