Swiss WorldCargo, the cargo division of Swiss International Air Lines AG, has gone live with Swiss Worx, a customized version of the end-to-end cargo-management system known as SkyChain. The technology was developed by Mercator, a Dubai-based provider of business systems. Using the latest Java technology, Swiss Worx allows for more flexibility and efficiencies within the airfreight shipment lifecycle. Swiss WorldCargo said it was one of the first to take advantage of the system when it was made available to outside cargo operators. Initiated in January, 2007, the project was the biggest information-technology effort in the history of the carrier, involving more than 50 I.T. and cargo professionals in Zurich and Dubai. Swiss Worx integrates with various other systems to permit the timely availability of information required for all commercial and operational business purposes, the airline said. The system addresses the user's needs in multiple areas, including network-wide sales and reservations, capacity management, pricing, contribution management and electronic commerce. Swiss WorldCargo serves more than 150 destinations in some 80 countries.
