PeopleNet has joined with Iteris, Inc. to create a new product for analyzing truck-driver performance on a real-time basis. PeopleNet is a vendor of internet-based systems for onboard computing and mobile communications. Iteris sells technology aimed at improving the safety of surface transportation systems. Together they have created Safety Direct, a system that analyzes driver data captured by Iteris's AutoVue Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system. Such information can be delivered directly to fleet operators through integration with PeopleNet's systems, and the Iteris data server known as Safety Direct. Data captured by the system includes excessive curve speed and lane changes without use of the turn signal. The information is conveyed via PeopleNet's onboard computer to Safety Direct's Web portal, where it can be accessed by fleet operators. In addition, the events can be combined with PeopleNet's driver log data to help fleet managers identify driver-specific behavior and patterns.
