PINC Solutions, a vendor of yard-management software, has enhanced its Yard Hound product line to allow for the monitoring of temperature-controlled trailers. Yard Hound Reefer enables the automated, remote monitoring of current temperatures inside refrigerated trailers, as well as their fuel levels. The technology eliminates the need for manual checks by yard personnel, PINC said. Yard Hound Reefer relies on passive radio frequency identification (RFID) and the IEEE 802.15.4 standard for mesh networking technology. It transmits monitored information from trailers back to the database in real time. The PINC Reefer Tag is enhanced with low-power circuitry to monitor temperature, fuel level and status of the attached trailer refrigeration unit. Customer-configurable notifications can be set to alert users of events such as temperatures outside set tolerances, or fuel levels decreasing below a pre-defined threshold. The system also offers trailer temperature history and preventive maintenance information from the monitored units.
