Anticipating a mandate by the Transportation Security Administration for 100-percent screening of air cargo, three companies have joined to offer an "all-in-one" security system. The partners are Smiths Detection, Lufthansa Cargo AG and Covenant Aviation Security LLC. The effort combines Lufthansa's cargo-carrying capabilities with Covenant's on-site security services and Smith Detection's screening technologies, which include X-ray and explosives trace-detection systems. Participants said the venture will provide both large and small freight forwarders with an array of air-cargo services, including ground handling, security screening and equipment, warehousing, training and transportation. The aim is to help shippers and forwarders meet TSA screening mandates. Smiths Detection is part of Smiths Group, a specialist in threat- and contraband-detection technology for a variety of industries.
