The American Society of Transportation and Logistics (ASTL) has expanded its presence in Asia with the opening of the Singapore Shippers Academy. The venture is intended to bridge a gap in the continuous education and training of shippers while raising industry standards, the organization said. It has selected two programs for initial certification: Professional Designation in Logistics and Supply Chain Management and Certified in Transportation and Logistics. ASTL also offers the two certification programs in China, Hong Kong and India. The Shippers Academy was developed by the Singapore National Shippers' Council, a national body representing importers, exporters, manufacturers, international traders and other cargo owners. In a related announcement, ASTL has opened a new chapter in Toronto, Ont. The first meeting was chaired by founder and chapter president Roberto Posadas.
