Exostar, an online trading exchange for the aerospace and defense industries, has begun monthly polls on its web site of the 75,000 companies in its community to better understand their priorities, challenges, and thoughts on a variety of business-critical topics. Questions are vendor- and solution-neutral, and are meant to help all parties understand the strategic plans and tactical responses firms are formulating and executing in today's highly dynamic operating environments.

The most recent survey sought input on the factors driving the development of supply chain strategy. Among the findings:

• Nearly 45 percent of respondents cited the need to react quickly to customer opportunities as the most significant influence on their supply chain strategy;
• Over 30 percent said it was the need to reduce risk to customer deliveries; 
•  Only 25 percent combined chose competing on the strength of the supply chain or avoiding delays in booking revenue.

Community members are invited to participate either by answering questions or submitting questions for possible inclusion on the site.
