Qualcomm Inc. has announced several new products aimed at improving the management of truck fleets and freight delivery. The company is a provider of integrated wireless systems, applications and services to transportation and logistics companies. Its new Trip Manager application helps private-fleet managers to control driver and route activities. Integrated with the vendor's Circle-of-Service Workflow app, Trip Manager aids in planning, viewing and management on a real-time basis. It displays key trip information to fleet managers and other back-office staff through maps, reports and queries. A new Vehicle Inspection Report application offers a closed-loop process for completing inspection reports in compliance with requirements of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. It uses prompts and error detection to automate the vehicle inspection process, sending out alerts when defects are identified. Qualcomm's new Proof of Delivery handheld application is designed for Intermec's CN50 rugged mobile computer. It allows the driver to automate work assignments that are performed outside the vehicle, such as barcode scanning, exception management and signature capture. Proof of Delivery is due to become commercially available in the summer of 2011. Qualcomm has also announced the integration of sensor data from Mobileye with its Critical Event Reporting application. Mobileye is a vendor of systems for crash avoidance. Critical Event Reporting provides driver managers with visibility into safety-related events, allowing them to proactively communicate with drivers on safe driving habits.
