APL Logistics has expanded its presence in the Middle East with the appointment of two additional agencies in the region: Iraq Transcontinental Shipping Co. in Iraq, and Kuwait Transcontinental Shipping Co. W.L.L. in Kuwait. The company's services are geared toward shippers in multiple industries, including automotive, retail, apparel, electronics, high-tech, consumer packaged goods, consumer durables, heavy equipment and industrial. They will have access to APL Logistics' services through the agencies' offices in Basrah, Bagdad and Umm Qasr in Iraq, and Ardiya in Kuwait. APL Logistics will offer its full suite of services, including supply-chain design and engineering, international logistics, warehousing, domestic distribution, project cargo and information technology systems. In another company announcement, APL Logistics has operated its first double-stack container train service in India. APL IndiaLinx, the company's local rail operations arm, stacked 90 forty-foot boxes two-high on a train that departed Mundra Port on the west coast of India for an inland rail terminal at Kishangarth, near Delhi. The new operation follows the recent decision of Indian Railways to allow stacktrain access along the Mundra-Kishangarth corridor. The development is part of a larger effort to provide a freight-dedicated network of railroads with stacktrains connecting key gateway ports and major North Indian industrial centers before the end of 2016. APL IndiaLinx plans to expand its stacktrain service network as additional rail corridors are opened to that equipment, the company said.
