Descartes Systems Group is enhancing cargo-security systems available through its cloud-based Logistics Technology Platform. The tool was developed in response to the "Beyond the Border" security declaration of President Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. The two leaders called for the implementation of common practices and streamlined procedures for customs processing and regulatory compliance. Descartes said it has been asked by members of its Global Logistics Community to work with them and U.S. Customs and Border Protection on the latter's Air Cargo Advanced Screening initiative and related undertakings. ACAS is designed to provide CBP with data on the parties and commodities involved in shipments earlier in the shipment process. In addition, Descartes has achieved "M1" certification for advanced manifest security filings for ocean shipments traveling inbound to the U.S. Because of the rapid pace and comprehensive scope of new U.S.-Canada cross-border initiatives, Descartes will be holding information webinars for its customers and other impacted parties.
