The new transportation provider extends the third-party logistics offerings, including warehousing and supply-chain management, of Menlo Logistics in Europe. Menlo has operated a freight-brokerage operation in North America since 2007 under a sister company, Con-way Multimodal. The new unit combines best practices from the North American operation with Lean tools and European transport specialists. Having completed its trial period, Menlo Freight Brokerage is now managing more than 500 shipments per month across multiple modes, including truckload, parcel, groupage, full- and less-than-containerload, air freight and ocean, the company said. The majority of the volume has been intra-Europe in nature, although the unit has also handled cargoes destined for Asia and North America. The European freight-brokerage operation is based at Menlo’s offices in Amsterdam. It is headed by Richard de Ritter, who has eight years of experience managing transportation for customers of Menlo’s logistics services.
