The GS1 US Data Governance Best Practice Guidance document includes best practices for the improving the data-governance process. In addition, the Data Governance Assessment Guide helps to gauge the effectiveness of a company's governance procedures. The document outlines industry recommendations in such areas as the establishment of centralized points of control, the role of data stewards, and verification and maintenance of an organization's data-governance program. It also addresses in detail the essential processes within such programs – Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) management, product measurement, new-item setup, and ongoing item maintenance and data synchronization.
