Lawson Software has made generally available a new version of Lawson Smart Office. The software package is designed to boost employee productivity by linking business intelligence, applications, workflow, collaboration and Microsoft Office tools. Lawson Smart Office 9.0.3 offers improved intuitive and graphical means of viewing data. It includes the flexibility to build "mashups" that integrate with external applications such as Google Maps and other Web-based business tools. The update also enables greater personalization of users' desktops specific to their daily tasks, along with tighter Microsoft Office integration and improved ease of use. Smart Office also offers more powerful editing features for Microsoft Excel and Lawson applications. Other features of version 9.0.3 include an InfoBrowser widget, which displays problems and exceptions, the ability to work offline in Excel, and shortcuts to important information in Microsoft Outlook. In a related announcement, Lawson has released Lawson Enterprise Search, a new product that allows for searches of structured and unstructured data across the Lawson S3 suite of applications, Lawson Business Intelligence and the user's desktop. Part of the vendor's User Productivity Platform of tools, Enterprise Search makes it easier for users to locate information and take action based on it. It offers the ability to search keys, comments, descriptions and dates; use wildcards or operators; search from any transaction field; save commonly used search queries; execute free-form searches, and perform directed searches by way of an interest center.
