Descartes Systems Group has launched a Global Filer Initiative, to aid freight shippers in their customs filing requirements. The offering creates a single dashboard and portal-based framework which enables collaboration between multiple partners across modes. Functionality includes filing, status updates, exception management and reporting. Using built-in event-management capabilities, companies can initiate their own customized checks and balances. The effort has been undertaken with oversight by Descartes' Global Customs Filing Working Group, consisting of customers dedicated to reducing customs-filing complexities and costs through electronic means. It draws on the vendor's Global Logistics Network, a multimodal group of transportation providers and their customers. According to Descartes, the GLN helps companies do a better job of managing their logistics book-to-bill process, tracking inventory, meeting regulatory requirements, optimizing fleet performance and communicating with logistics partners.
