SAS Institute Inc. has developed a new application for analyzing service claim data, with the goal of identifying suspicious claims and service providers. The tool known as SAS OnDemand: Suspect Claims Detection features a data-processing infrastructure with support from the SAS Advanced Analytics Lab. According to the vendor, service costs can be reduced through the denial or charging back of illegitimate claims. Such claims decrease as service providers become aware that they are being monitored, SAS said. In addition, an automated claim-review feature uncovers patterns of inefficiency where service providers can improve performance. Automated analytics detect patterns of parts usage that can be used to retrain technicians and save on parts costs. The application is hosted on a secure, shareable and scalable infrastructure designed for the detection of suspect claims. The on-demand nature of the tool eliminates the need for up-front IT investment, staff and maintenance costs, according to SAS. In addition, SAS has enhanced its Warranty Analysis tool to include support for the database-management capabilities of Teradata, an SAS partner. The tool also offers enhanced e-mail alerts on emerging issues, enabling subscribers to monitor specific watch lists, parts and projects.
