Carrier Transicold has introduced what it says is the world's first container refrigeration system to use the natural refrigerant carbon dioxide. The new NaturaLINE design was engineered to produce efficiencies equal to the company's PrimeLINE unit. Carrier Transicold offers a line of temperature-controlled equipment for refrigerated trucks, trailers and containers. By using CO2 as a refrigerant, the NaturaLINE design reduces emissions by 28 percent over previous units. The technology uses two stages of compression, improving the unit's overall efficiency. Its cylinder unloading capability allows the compressor to save energy in light-load conditions. The variable-speed drive that controls the compressor is a first for a Carrier container refrigeration unit, the company said. In a related announcement, Carrier Transicold has developed the Dual-View Temperature Display, an external temperature and status indicator which provides a reverse image in the rearview mirror so that it appears correctly for drivers. The optional accessory mounts on the front corner of a refrigerated trailer, behind the driver for easy visibility.
