According to the company, Direct Attach is a simpler and more secure method than the traditional means of connecting IP network devices in certain building system applications, such as security cameras, wireless access points and lighting controls. Also known as the single-connector, modified permanent link method, Direct Attach removes the jack and patch cord from a typical ethernet connection, and attaches the device directly to a modular plug on the end of the horizontal ethernet cable. Graybar said it worked with Underwriters Laboratories, the independent testing body, to validate the Direct Attach system. UL actively and passively tested the category 5e and 6 cables in various configurations. Graybar works through a network of nearly 240 North American distribution facilities.
