To promote widespread adoption of the service, Descartes is making its Standard Messaging Format (SMF) communication protocol publicly available, free of charge, to those wishing to connect to the Descartes Global Logistics Network (GLN). Descartes Community allows customers to reach GLN members through collaboration tools, and automate multi-party processes through the SMF business document definitions. In another company announcement, Descartes has acquired Exentra Transport Solutions Ltd., a U.K.-based provider of hosted driver-compliance applications for the European Union. Exentra's technology strengthens Descsartes' Routing, Mobile and Telematics suite to address the U.S. regulatory environment. The newly combined applications can improve the quality and safety of route planning for U.K. customers, Descartes said.
