String3 was piloted by a number of well-known brands and retailers, including high street apparel sellers and companies in the mining, minerals and forestry sectors. They asked questions about the country of origin for cotton, country of timber harvest for viscose, country of mining for tantalum and tungsten, and species of animal and country of origin for leather. String3 can be used to identify potential risks that arise from network complexity, physical location of suppliers, or lack of information about suppliers, according to Historic Futures. The company has achieved ISO 27001 certification for its Information Security Management System.
