“Natural capital” is just another term for the earth’s resources, which are being depleted at a shocking rate by human activity. One of the biggest culprits is the global transportation sector. Carbon emissions caused by transportation have risen by 250 percent since 1970, and now account for 23 percent of total global emissions. On this episode, we learn of the extent of the problem from Chris Bonnet, manager of environmental, social and governance business with Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty. He discusses the contents of a new survey by Allianz that set out to measure the impact of various business sectors on natural capital, with a particular focus on transportation. He talks about where the most serious damage is occurring, what are the consequences for people and business of a failure to reverse the trend, and what can be done about it. We’re in a state of “critical risk,” he says. Hosted by Bob Bowman, Managing Editor of Supply Chain Brain.
