ALK Technologies has updated its software and digital map data for PC-MILER Navigator, its portable navigation device for truck drivers. Based on the vendor's CoPilot application, PC-MILER Navigator includes a built-in GPS receiver, speaker and color touchscreen, which displays directions and speaks street names. The technology comes pre-installed. ALK's PC-MILER 23 is a truck-specific routing, mileage and mapping package. The Navigator update encompasses some 177,000 new North American truck restrictions, including new rules on the movement of dangerous goods in Canada. The enhanced digital map data includes 47,000 miles of new and updated truck-restricted roadway; 32,600 North American hazardous materials restrictions and 12,500 new weight allowances nationwide. Also included are 2.9 million commercial truck restrictions, such as bridge heights and load limits. Weight limits and allowances, one-way designations, left-hand and dangerous turn restrictions and truck-prohibited roads are included for the U.S. and Canada.
