ALK Technologies has entered into a business alliance with SMC3. According to the partners, the deal creates a seamless interface between ALK's PC-MILER Web services for truck mapping and routing, and the SMC3 RateWare XL rating product. Customers get a single point of access to a full range of mileage, transit times and rate content. Under the deal, RateWare XL, which delivers less-than-truckload density and linear rates under the software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, will link up with mileage data from PC-MILER. The latter is used by major motor carriers, shippers, logistics companies and organizations, including the U.S. Department of Defense, General Services Administration and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. As licensed users of ALK software, SMC3 customers can access mileage data and quickly determine the appropriate rates. In a related announcement, ALK announced the latest quarterly update of toll costs for its PC-MILER/Tolls application. The development coincides with increases in commercial vehicle toll rates by a large number of toll agencies in the U.S. and Canada, particularly those in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The current versions 24 and 24.1 of PC-MILER/Tolls include 71,450 unique toll paths. The tool calculates exact toll costs based on vehicle weight, axle count, departure location, vehicle dimension, route preference, type of toll and destination.
