Aras, a vendor of open-source software for product lifecycle management (PLM), has developed Android and iPhone mobile applications for the Aras Innovator suite. The apps were developed by Aras partner Porchys. According to Aras, they provide global companies with the ability to extend PLM processes and information to thousands of mobile users. The first generation of applications for Android and iPhone smartphones allows users to securely access, manage and edit information in Aras from their mobile devices. The apps can be configured and extended to support company-specific processes across a variety of industries, including high-tech electronics, automotive, aerospace, energy, pharmaceutical, healthcare and consumer products such as apparel and food and beverage. Porchys provides services in Web, software and mobile-application development with PLM implementation consulting and systems integration. In another company development, Aras has introduced an open-source SharePoint-based tool developed in collaboration with Actify, Razorleaf and Microsoft. The Collaborative Product Development (CPD) application allows for sharing throughout the organization of product data assets that are normally constrained within a PLM or product data management (PDM) system. The sharing also extends to customers, suppliers and global partners, Aras said.
